Klamp Quick-Release Battery Terminal - TÜV NORD Certified

What TÜV NORD certification means and the safety tests Klamp passed

The Klamp quick-release battery terminal clamp is independently certified by TÜV NORD (Technischer Überwachungsverein), one of Germany's three major testing, inspection, and certification organisations with over 155 years of history dating back to 1869. Headquartered in Hanover, Germany, TÜV NORD operates across 500+ locations in over 100 countries with more than 15,000 engineers and specialists. Klamp is the only quick-release battery terminal connector of its type to hold this certification.

Safety tests Klamp battery terminals passed for TÜV certification

  • Contact resistance (IEC 60512-2) - measured using the four-wire Kelvin method at milliohm-level accuracy. Klamp's copper alloy internals achieve approximately 0.12 micro-ohms at 10A, with voltage drop not exceeding 3.2mV per terminal point.
  • Current capacity and temperature rise (IEC 60512-5-2) - loaded at rated current up to 800A while temperature is measured at multiple points. The battery terminal connector must not exceed safe thermal limits under sustained load.
  • Dielectric strength (IEC 61984 Section 7.3.12) - high-voltage applied between conducting parts and the polypropylene housing to verify insulation integrity under overvoltage conditions.
  • Lifecycle durability (IEC 60512-13-2) - the standard requires up to 5,000 insertion-withdrawal cycles. Klamp has been tested to over 20,000 function cycles - four times the standard requirement for battery terminal connectors.
  • Vibration resistance (IEC 60512-6-4 / IEC 60512-6-5) - sinusoidal and random vibration stress testing simulating transportation, installation, and operational conditions in vehicles, boats, and 4WDs. Contact resistance is re-measured before and after to verify zero degradation.
  • Mechanical strength (IEC 61984 Section 6.18) - impact and stress testing on the connector body, terminals, and cable clamp retention under pull and twist forces.
  • Salt spray corrosion (IEC 60068-2-11) - exposed to atomised 5% sodium chloride fog for extended durations (up to 1,000+ hours) to evaluate the quality and uniformity of Klamp's 12-micron tin plating and detect any coating defects in the battery terminal.
  • Cyclic salt mist (IEC 60068-2-52) - a more aggressive multi-phase test cycling through salt fog, damp humidity, and dry conditions to simulate real-world marine and under-bonnet environments.
  • Thermal shock (IEC 60512-11-4) - rapidly moved between low and high temperature chambers with 45-minute dwells per cycle across multiple cycles to test resistance to thermal expansion and contraction without degradation.
  • Heat aging (ISO 6722) - extended exposure to elevated temperatures to verify long-term material stability of the brass, polypropylene, and tin plating used in the battery clamp.
  • Low-temperature testing - verifies mechanical integrity and flexibility in cold conditions, critical for cold-start applications in cars, 4WDs, and marine vehicles.
  • Tin plating inspection - thickness measurement (12 microns) and adhesion testing of the plating to the copper-zinc alloy substrate used in Klamp battery terminals.
  • Stainless steel passivation (DIN ISO 4042) - all 316-grade marine stainless steel fasteners checked for proper passivation to ensure corrosion resistance in harsh automotive and marine environments.

Beyond product testing, TÜV NORD conducts on-site inspections of the ISO 9001 certified manufacturing facility (OJOP Sweden AB, Eskilstuna, Sweden) where Klamp battery terminals are produced:

  • Process control methods, capability studies, and statistical quality techniques
  • Calibration and control of all measuring and test equipment
  • In-process inspection and sampling plans at every production stage
  • Non-conforming product identification, segregation, and handling procedures
  • Ongoing surveillance inspections conducted multiple times per year to verify that currently manufactured battery terminals match the originally certified specification

Certificate Registration No. 44 786 150277-001 · Issued by TÜV NORD CERT GmbH, Essen, Germany · Product: Battery connector, model Quick Power · Klamp is the only quick-release battery terminal of its type to hold TÜV certification. Used in Daimler, Unimog, and Volvo military vehicles.

Will this fit my battery?

Klamp fits all SAE and DIN standard battery terminals, which covers the majority of Australian, American, and European vehicles.

Works with cars, 4WDs, vans, trucks, caravans, motorhomes, and boats. If your vehicle is Japanese-made (Honda, Toyota, Subaru, Mazda, etc.), your battery may use smaller JIS terminals which require conversion sleeves (we can supply these).

Not sure? Send us a photo of your battery terminals and we'll confirm - hello@klast.com.au

Do I need any tools to install it?

Installation is a one-time job that takes about 2-5 minutes. You'll need wire cutters to remove your old terminals and a screwdriver to secure your cables into the clamp housing. After that, connecting and disconnecting is completely tool-free, for life. See our full installation guide here.

How do I jumpstart the car?

Klamp has a built-in jump lead position. Simply lift the lever to the release position and it exposes the brass terminal post, giving you full access to attach jumper cables or a portable jump starter. The connection stays firm in this position, it only fully disconnects when you unclamp it completely. Once you're done, just press the lever back down to lock.

What is TÜV certification?

TÜV certification is a globally recognised standard for safety and quality, issued by independent German testing organisations.

Our clamps have been independently tested for:

  • Up to 800A current handling (cranking loads)
  • Vibration resistance (to maintain a secure connection while driving)
  • Repeated use durability (20,000 clamp/unclamp cycles)
  • Thermal performance (heat and cold conditions)

This ensures they deliver a safe, secure, and reliable connection in real-world conditions.

What if it doesn't work for me?

We offer a 30-day return policy, no questions asked. If it's not right for your setup, just reach out and we'll sort it. Every Klamp also comes with a 1-year product warranty covering defects in materials and workmanship.

Is it safe for high-amp systems?

Yes, Klamp is rated safely up to 800A, built from copper alloy and marine-grade stainless steel 316, the same materials used in industrial and military applications.

It supports wire sizes from 15mm² up to 70mm², which is far beyond what most vehicles require. Klamp is TÜV NORD certified and is used in Daimler, Unimog, and Volvo military vehicles.

Will disconnecting my battery reset my car's settings?

For long-term storage or seasonal use, this isn't an issue, it's actually the point. For quick disconnections (under 30 seconds), most modern vehicles will retain their settings without any problems.

If you plan to disconnect frequently on a newer vehicle, a small OBD2 memory saver plugged in during disconnection will keep your ECU, radio presets, and window calibrations intact.

How does it work?

Place the clamp over the battery post, compress to lock, that's it. To disconnect, lift to release and slide off. No spanners, no tools, no fumbling. The entire process takes about 5 seconds.

Enjoy 30 days of risk-free returns on all purchases.

Klamp is the genuine OJOP Quick Power connector, designed and manufactured in Sweden from solid 1.6mm brass, copper alloy, and stainless steel 316 in an ISO 9001 certified factory. The cheap alternatives ($3–$15) are unbranded copies made from thin painted steel and ABS plastic. OJOP tested several fakes and they failed after as few as 11 uses. Klamp has been tested to over 20,000 function cycles.

Yes. Klamp is specifically designed with built-in jumper cable access, so you can connect jump leads while the terminal is still attached to the battery. No need to remove anything.

For long-term storage, this isn't a concern, it's actually the point. For brief disconnections under 30 seconds, most modern vehicles will retain their settings. If you plan to disconnect frequently, a small OBD2 memory saver (around $15–$30 from any auto parts store) will keep your ECU, radio presets, and window calibrations intact.

Yes. Many customers use Klamp as a quick-access master kill switch for safety, anti-theft, or to prevent battery drain during storage. Lifting the release completely isolates the battery from the vehicle's electrical system.

The outer shell is polypropylene (impact-resistant plastic). The internal clamp mechanism is copper alloy for maximum conductivity. All fasteners are marine-grade stainless steel 316 for corrosion resistance. These materials are chosen for durability in harsh Australian conditions, heat, dust, moisture, and salt air.

Klamp is manufactured by OJOP, a Swedish engineering company operating since 1922. They produce over 250,000 Quick Power battery connectors per year, exported to more than 50 countries. Klast is the authorised Australian distributor.

Installation is a one-time job. You'll need wire cutters to remove your old terminals, a wire stripper to expose about 10–12mm of clean copper, and a Phillips-head screwdriver to secure your cables into the clamp housing. After that, daily use is completely tool-free, for life.

About 2–5 minutes per terminal. Cut off your old terminals, strip the wire, slide it into the Klamp housing, and tighten with a screwdriver. Full step-by-step instructions with photos are available on our installation guide page.

Yes, you'll cut off your old terminal connectors and strip the cable end to expose clean copper wire. This is a permanent upgrade, not a clip-on accessory. The result is a cleaner, more secure, and more reliable connection than your original bolt-on terminals.

Most customers install Klamp themselves in under 5 minutes with basic hand tools. No electrical knowledge is needed, just follow our installation guide. If you'd prefer professional installation, any auto electrician or mechanic can do it quickly and cheaply.

Klamp comes as a colour-coded pair, red for positive (+) and black for negative (−). Always connect positive first when installing. Always disconnect negative first when removing.

The consumer version uses a bolt-in connection secured with a screwdriver, which is the easiest method for DIY installation. OJOP also manufactures OEM crimp-fit versions for professional or high-volume installations, contact us if you need these.

Klamp supports wire sizes from 15mm² up to 70mm², which covers the vast majority of vehicles. If your cables fall outside this range (very rare), contact us and we'll help you find the right solution.
